Portable Summer Snacks that Don’t Melt!

With summer temperatures rising, finding snacks for kids that won't melt can be a challenge. Whether you're heading to the beach, park, or on a road trip, keeping a supply of snacks is essential. Here are some nutritious and delicious snack ideas that can withstand the heat:

  1. Trail Mix: Create your own trail mix using a variety of nuts, seeds, whole grain cereals, and dried fruits. This non-perishable snack is perfect for summer outings and can provide a good mix of nutrients for growing kids.

  2. Rice Cakes with Nut Butter: Spread almond or peanut butter on rice cakes for a satisfying snack and a fun alternative to your average PB&J. Nut butters are a great source of healthy fats and protein, keeping kids energized during their summer adventures.

  3. Dried and Dehydrated Fruit: Raisins, cherries, freeze-dried strawberries and mangos, oh my! These are easy portable options that help keep kids regular! Don’t forget about fruit leather too! High in fiber and lots of vitamins!!

  4. Popcorn, Pretzels, Hippeas, Crackers: Air-popped popcorn is a light and crunchy snack that won't melt in the sun. Or grab your favorite crunchy, salty yum-yums (as I call them) in single-serving packages. A salty snack help replenish sodium lost in sweat.

  5. Granola Bars: Opt for granola bars that are less likely to melt, such as ones with a higher nut or seed content and NO chocolate chips (sad!) Mini cliff bars are a great option! Barbara’s Fig Bars are an awesome option too!

  6. Jerky: portable protein, yes, please! Keeps kids fuller longer than crackers alone for an overall better mood (heck yes!)

  7. Whisps or Dried Cheese: portable cheese that doesn’t require refrigeration, yes, please. These keep kids full and satisfied and pair well with crackers and dried fruit.

  8. Graham Crackers: Also yummy with peanut butter or on their own. Look for the Kodiak brand for a higher protein content AND they are made with whole grains. Belvita is a good option too!

  9. Gummy Bears: because we need a little sweet treat fun packed into our adventures!
